This week’s question deals with voyage planning an important step in any successful passage. When in local waters voyage planning can be second nature, when planning for long passages or passages to new cruising grounds it can take several days or more. Either way, voyage planning requires the gathering of information about the waters between our starting point and our destination as well as information about the destination.
1. Name 5 (or more) categories of information you want answers to when planning a voyage to someplace you have never been.
2. Name the sources you use to gather this information.
As you can see these two questions are subjective as each Captain and Mate have their own list of information they want when sailing someplace new. Also, our need for specific information changes with each destination.
Since these questions are subjective to each individual there are no right or wrong answers and like all our Questions of the Week this post is intended as a learning experience. Thus, the more comments made on this post, the more those who are new to cruising will learn. So please comment and thanks in advance for your comments.
Thursdays Answer will be a compilation of all comments.
