No need to get confused just remember that any travel towards Brownsville is considered Southbound on the ICW.
In this instance traveling south along the Alligator River-Pungo River Canal you were on the ICW. As you passed under the bridge in Hoboken North Carolina you entered a waterway, the Pungo River, that is navigable from the ocean. When the ICW coincides with a waterway that is navigable from the ocean the markers and buoys on the ocean accessible waterway take precedence. Therefore, the markers here switched from Red on the right to Green on the right
However, the yellow marks, triangles and squares, that indicate you are on the ICW and which direction you are traveling on the ICW hold their position from Norfolk to Brownsville regardless of the color or shape of the mark they are on. When you passed southbound under the Hoboken Bridge the buoy colors switched sides but the yellow triangles remained on the right (now on a green mark) and the yellow squares remained on the left (now on a red mark) indicating that you are still southbound on the ICW.
