It hasn’t been the fastest refit, a couple of hours after work each day and weekends but progress is being made. The goal is to be done and back in the water and moved aboard in August. In the meantime here are some pics of Malaya’s semi done cockpit area.
The old cockpit had 1/2″ teak inlays on the seats and combings, the wood had cracked and the caulking had failed so they were dirt and water collection points. I removed all the teak from the seats and combings, leaving only the teak on the cockpit sole as it was still serviceable.
Next, I took a grinder to the tops of the combings then filled in the areas where the teak had been with multiple layers of glass, I then faired the area smooth. Once the primary painting is done the combings will be non-skidded with paint and non-skid sand.

Painting is also continuing inside the cabin, the lockers in what was the forward head have all been painted, as have the overhead and cabin sides. We have also finished painting the inside of the hanging locker and the spare parts/tool locker and the lockers under the double berth in the master cabin as well as the overhead and cabin sides and bulkheads in the quarter cabin.
In the master cabin work is underway to paint the overhead and cabin sides and the under deck area, our goal to have this cabin finished by the end of the month. Then it is on to the main saloon and galley overhead and cabin sides.
The list we generated in November last year is shrinking, not as fast as we would like and we will lose some of the summer but we will be aboard again in August and have time to shake down all systems before heading south again in the fall.
