Life getting in the way is a common occurrence in the cruising community, all to often the best-laid plans get waylaid by life.  At the beginning of July, I again became a victim of life.  My plan for July was to finish all the glass work on

 

Malaya’s decks and cockpit plus get all the painting done on deck and below.  I had already arranged the time off so I could spend the whole month on just Malaya.  However, on July 1st I blew a disc in my back and spent the next 4 weeks unable to do much of anything except lay in bed and take painful circular walks around the house, sitting, bending, driving, work was out of the question.

Thus, the decks still sit and wait for glass as well as paint as does the main cabin sides and overhead BUT the good news is I am once again, cautiously mobile and have managed to get some varnishing done standing up at a bench and I have managed to get the last topcoat and the non-skid done in the cockpit.  This last week wasn’t great progress but it was progress and hopefully this next week I will be able to spend more time at least painting as I think my back needs a little more healing before I tackle building a scaffold and glassing the side decks.  In the meantime here are some pics of the cockpit progress.

Our goal now, in the water sometime in September so we can move back aboard in time to head south for the winter.
