This week’s question deals with Fire. Having a fire onboard is not something anyone cares to experience. However, even the best-maintained boats can still experience a fire. Sometimes, it’s carelessness, sometimes, just equipment failure. Regardless of the cause, any fire must be dealt with quickly to prevent a major emergency. Understanding what the different types of fires are and what will effectively extinguish them is a critical skill that every Captain must think about and prepare for.
